Capturing Memories

Capturing the little things in life

About

I, Shandi Dix, have always had a fascination with cameras and photography. I think it all started with my mom taking pictures all the time and when I was old enough I had a camera in my hand at every event or just in the yard.

In high school I was an independent photography student and received the award of photography student of the year. My favorite place to be was in the dark room with some country music playing completely alone. I spent all of my free time in high school in there.

My senior year we went to digital and I was on the yearbook staff. I had fun capturing the memories of my final year of high school – the end to one chapter of my book. I started college with the life-long goal of becoming a kindergarten teacher. With six credit hours left I decided to double major and in December 2007 I graduated from Hutchinson Community College with an associate’s degree in Early Elementary Education and Visual Communications with a focus on journalism and photography. In April 2007, I began my photography business, originally Photography by Shandi, because a new dance studio needed a photographer for group and individual shots. I continued it as a hobby until the summer of 2009 when I changed the name to Capturing Memories and began the business as a part-time job.

I love my job as a journalist but my goal is to capture the memories of children from birth to adulthood, parenthood and so on. I ultimately love photographing babies and small children – capturing every inch of their tiny lives from their small toes and fingers to first smiles.

I hope to work with you and your family no matter the size or age capturing the precious memories of life.
